The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Jayden Daniels, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. The cost of the Rouse reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 3 they get a passer to set the clock by. A clean fit for the roster.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Keon Coleman. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Malachi Corley in slot 68. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They paid sticker price for Matt Goncalves in No. 103, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A real head-scratcher, Walter Rouse in the 137th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They liked Trente Jones enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 180. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Johnny Dixon in the 193rd overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A straight-up fair deal on Tylan Grable at Round 7, Pick 11, value and slot in agreement. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
