The war room fell hard for Xavier Thomas, and it showed at the Round 5 slot: 48 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
They will regret leaving offensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. The Wilson steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
Running back was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Good work on the whole, with offensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 23 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
The board had cheaper options than Byron Murphy II at Round 2, Pick 26, and it noticed. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They read the board right and Johnny Wilson was the payoff at the Round 3 slot. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Khyree Jackson at the 123rd overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Cedric Gray at pick 126 is the proof. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They reached into another round for Xavier Thomas, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Good price on Blake Watson in No. 239, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Storm Duck. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
