The Packers spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Anthony Gould, the No. 142 name on the board, in slot 219. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
They will need Hartman to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They went 8 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th overall pick they get an anchor for the offensive line, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
Cooper Beebe in pick No. 41 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A tidy bit of business in No. 58, where Chris Braswell graded well above the range. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Fair-plus on Jaden Hicks, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A minor itch, scratched.
They paid sticker price for Bucky Irving in pick 91, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
The board had Elijah Jones higher than slot 126, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A linebacker of that caliber at the 169th pick is the definition of value, full stop. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Sam Hartman at the Round 6 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Anthony Gould in the 219th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Zion Logue at Round 7, Pick 25 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The roster fit checks out.
The board fumbled Trey Knox all the way to slot 255, and they scooped it up. It fills a real need, too.
