The C.J. Hanson pick is the one that will follow the Dolphins into the fall. They took him 23 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so.
They banked enough surplus on Torrence to cover a lot of smaller sins. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 21st overall pick they get a disruptor off the edge. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A straight-up fair deal on Kingsley Suamataia at Round 2, Pick 23, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
Jacob Cowing at pick 158 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jordan Jefferson in the 184th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A cornerback of that caliber at No. 198 is the definition of value, full stop. A minor itch, scratched.
C.J. Hanson at slot 241 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
