Somewhere a general manager is explaining how D.J. James got past him. The Texans do not have to explain a thing at Round 3, Pick 25. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
They are betting Orhorhoro proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 27th overall pick they get a go-to option on the outside, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
They reached into another round for Ruke Orhorhoro, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
D.J. James at slot 88 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Circle this one: Dominick Puni at Round 4, Pick 21 is a fall that decides a draft. A need, and now a little less of one.
Beau Brade slid further than he should have, and the Round 4 slot is lovely value for the safety. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Ty'Ron Hopper at No. 158 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Value with a capital V on Phil Jurkovec in pick 239, a genuine coup. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Blake Watson in the 242nd pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
