The Texans did not so much draft Eyabi Okie-Anoma as overpay for him, 142 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
Getting Corley where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman. Running back was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
The skill positions did well by the weekend.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 27 they get a difference-maker at receiver at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They jumped the gun on Edgerrin Cooper, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They let Johnny Wilson come to them and pounced at Round 3, Pick 25. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Malachi Corley at the 121st overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Nice patience on Beau Brade, who had no business lasting to pick 127. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Zion Tupuola-Fetui at slot 158 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Blake Watson at the Round 7 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A big swing on Eyabi Okie-Anoma at slot 242, well ahead of any board in the building. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
