You build a draft on nights like this. Jay Higgins had no business being available in pick 211, and the Cowboys did the only sane thing and turned in the card. The bottom line is a respectable B.
Every board in the league had Frazier lower, and that gap is the story. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 12 they get a lead back with juice, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
They paid sticker price for Trey Amos in the 44th overall pick, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They reached a country mile for Savion Williams at slot 76, and the board is aghast. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Quinn Ewers at the Round 5 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jeffrey Bassa in pick 170 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
JJ Pegues in pick No. 172 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Mitchell Evans in Round 5, Pick 35 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Miles Frazier. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Taking Jay Higgins in the 211th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Somehow Trevor Etienne was still sitting there in Round 7, Pick 31, and they pounced on premier running back value. It fills a real need, too.
