The 49ers did not so much draft Max Llewellyn as overpay for him, 27 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.
That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Getting Endries where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with offensive lineman chief among the fixes.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 27 they get protection for the quarterback. The biggest hole, addressed.
Good price on Jake Slaughter in pick No. 58, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Max Llewellyn this early at the 127th overall pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jack Endries at Round 4, Pick 33 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Tim Keenan III at the 138th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
