The Chiefs did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Zak Zinter fell into slot 131. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. McMillan has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 32 they get protection for the quarterback. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Kris Jenkins in pick 64. It fills a real need, too.
A conviction pick on Jalen McMillan at the 95th overall pick that the board grades a round light. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Circle this one: Zak Zinter at the Round 4 slot is a fall that decides a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Luke McCaffrey at pick No. 159 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They let Jaylin Simpson come to them and pounced at slot 173. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They read the board right and Nathaniel Watson was the payoff at No. 221. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
