Call it larceny. Will Shipley sat on the board until Round 4, Pick 21, and the Texans did not need to be asked twice.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They left with running back solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 27 they get protection for the quarterback, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
Xavier Legette at No. 53 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Payton Wilson is a better player than Round 3, Pick 25 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It fills a real need, too.
A running back of that caliber at pick 121 is the definition of value, full stop. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
The board fumbled Braelon Allen all the way to pick No. 127, and they scooped it up. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Malik Mustapha at the 158th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A quiet steal in the Round 7 slot: Phil Jurkovec for less than the market said. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Xavier Restrepo in the 242nd pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
