The tape said wait; the Cowboys did not. Anthony Belton went at pick No. 151, a good 108 picks before the board was ready. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
The Singleton value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They will regret leaving cornerback for another day if the season turns on it. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 14 they get an every-down engine for the run game, outstanding value to boot.
The board fumbled Jalon Walker all the way to Round 2, Pick 13, and they scooped it up. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A tidy little value on Deone Walker in the Round 3 slot, a step better than break-even. A need, and now a little less of one.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Anthony Belton this early at pick 151. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The board had cheaper options than Antwane Wells Jr. at the 168th overall pick, and it noticed. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A big swing on Ar'maj Reed-Adams at the 170th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They robbed the room for Chris Paul Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They talked themselves into Jared Wilson at No. 189, and the board did not agree. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Nicholas Singleton at the 209th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Jamon Dumas-Johnson in pick 248, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
