Somebody in the 242nd overall pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Texans sat still while Xavier Restrepo, the No. 223 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. If Robinson pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
They liked Chop Robinson enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 27. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Jonah Elliss at the Round 2 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Malachi Corley in slot 88 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Nothing to complain about; Junior Colson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Max Melton at the 127th pick is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Malik Mustapha in pick No. 158. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Blake Watson in No. 239 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They robbed the room for Xavier Restrepo here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
