The Cowboys did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Dillon Gabriel fell into the 169th pick. No fireworks, but a solid B.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end. The Howell reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 13 they get a centerpiece for the ground game at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Nic Scourton in the 44th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at slot 77 is the definition of value, full stop. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They barely believed it either: Tacario Davis still on the board at pick No. 113. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Lander Barton at the Round 5 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
You do not let a quarterback like Dillon Gabriel reach Round 5, Pick 31 and blink. They did not. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Cashius Howell in pick 170 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Armand Membou at the 172nd pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A slide stopped in Round 6, Pick 13, with Ricky White III worth more than the price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Garrett Dellinger in the 209th overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
