The search is over. The Patriots handed the keys to Drake Maye, and the whole operation now runs on his development. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
If Sinnott pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
That is an offensive lineman worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 3 they get their guy under center for the next decade. A real need, handled.
The board had JC Latham higher than No. 34, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Roman Wilson in the 68th overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Ben Sinnott at the 104th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The roster fit checks out.
A premium they did not need to pay, Dylan Laube a notch or two before his time. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They read the board right and Kitan Oladapo was the payoff at pick 182. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A wild overpay on Blake Watson in the Round 7 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It fills a real need, too.
