Somewhere a general manager is explaining how M.J. Devonshire got past him. The Cowboys do not have to explain a thing at pick No. 233. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. If Rice pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
They went 7 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

In No. 24 they get a cornerstone up front. Exactly the need they had to hit.
T'Vondre Sweat slipping to slot 56 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Brenden Rice in the 87th overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They robbed the room for Isaiah Davis here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It fills a real need, too.
They did well to land Nathaniel Watson in the 216th pick, just ahead of his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They barely believed it either: M.J. Devonshire still on the board at the Round 7 slot. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Trey Knox at Round 7, Pick 24 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A need, and now a little less of one.
