Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Texans spent the 238th pick on Blake Watson, a name the board had a full 62 spots lower. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Landing Pritchett that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with running back chief among the fixes.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 28 they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher, even if it was a touch early. The biggest hole, addressed.
They reached into another round for Johnny Wilson, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They paid sticker price for Malachi Corley in pick No. 90, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
By-the-book stuff, Beau Brade at the 117th pick squarely in line with his ranking. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Smael Mondon Jr. at No. 128 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It fills a real need, too.
Nice patience on Nehemiah Pritchett, who had no business lasting to Round 5, Pick 18. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Gabe Hall at the 234th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Blake Watson at the 238th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
