The Texans spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Nate Wiggins, the No. 37 name on the board, in the 90th overall pick. No fireworks, but a solid B.
The Watson pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.
They left with running back solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. They trusted the board more than the depth chart.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a problem off the edge at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They will replay Xavier Legette at the 49th pick for years; that is how good the value is. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Taking Nate Wiggins in pick 90 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. A minor itch, scratched.
They barely believed it either: Malachi Corley still on the board at the 117th overall pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A premium they did not need to pay, Payton Wilson a notch or two before his time. The roster fit checks out.
Blake Fisher at No. 154 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A big swing on Blake Watson at slot 234, well ahead of any board in the building. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A wild overpay on Sam Hartman in Round 7, Pick 18, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
