Nobody had Jordan Jefferson this high, and it is not close. The Cowboys reached 106 spots to get him at the Round 3 slot. A mixed bag that lands at C+.
They banked enough surplus on Wilson to cover a lot of smaller sins. They punted on linebacker, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
So much rides on Chris Braswell that the real verdict is a season or two away.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 24 they get a disruptor off the edge, even if it was a touch early. Need was not the driver here.
A big swing on Trey Benson at the 56th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It fills a real need, too.
A wild overpay on Jordan Jefferson in pick No. 87, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
You do not let a wide receiver like Johnny Wilson reach the Round 4 slot and blink. They did not. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They paid sticker price for Anthony Belton in slot 174, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Miyan Williams in No. 212 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jabbar Muhammad at the 245th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
