There is conviction, and then there is this. The 49ers took Eli Heidenreich a full 36 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. However the rest shakes out, Sadiq at that price is a win they earned.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 27 they get a red-zone target to build around at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
The board had A.J. Haulcy higher than the 58th pick, and the safety fell to them anyway. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Max Llewellyn in Round 4, Pick 27 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They paid up for Kaytron Allen at No. 138 when waiting would have done the job. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They talked themselves into Kevin Coleman Jr. at pick No. 139, and the board did not agree. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A real head-scratcher, Matt Gulbin in the 149th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Eli Heidenreich at slot 206 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They liked Logan Taylor enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 7 slot. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
