You build a draft on nights like this. Nicholas Singleton had no business being available in the Round 6 slot, and the Cowboys did the only sane thing and turned in the card.
The Fleming reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through cornerback.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a featured back, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
Matthew Golden in the 44th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing TreVeyon Henderson in slot 76. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A linebacker of that caliber at Round 5, Pick 11 is the definition of value, full stop. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board fumbled Sonny Styles all the way to pick No. 168, and they scooped it up. A minor itch, scratched.
Steal is underselling it; Lathan Ransom at the 170th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
They robbed the room for Jake Majors here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Taking Cody Simon in pick 186 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Somehow Nicholas Singleton was still sitting there in Round 6, Pick 34, and they pounced on premier running back value. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Julian Fleming at slot 247 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
