For all the boxes ticked, the Chiefs skipped the loudest one: tight end is exactly as bare as it was.
However the rest shakes out, Johnson at that price is a win they earned. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 32 they get a building block for the line at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Ja'Lynn Polk in slot 64 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Cole Bishop at the Round 3 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
No drama and no debate, Tyler Davis went about where he belonged in pick 131. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A clean, defensible pick in Round 5, Pick 23 with a little surplus value in Josh Newton. A minor itch, scratched.
Nice patience on Cornelius Johnson, who had no business lasting to the 173rd overall pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Cody Schrader at pick No. 221 is the proof. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
