There is reaching, and then there is Jalen Travis at the 240th overall pick. The Bears jumped the board by 56 and dared it to prove them wrong. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
Getting Brooks where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Job largely done: running back settled and 2 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
Armand Membou in the 10th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The roster fit checks out.
Tyler Warren in No. 39 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Nice patience on Omarion Hampton, who had no business lasting to slot 41. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They robbed the room for Xavier Watts here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Andres Borregales at pick No. 148 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
A running back of that caliber at pick 233 is the definition of value, full stop. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They reached a country mile for Jalen Travis at pick 240, and the board is aghast. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
