The tape said wait; the Dolphins did not. Keaton Bills went at the 184th pick, a good 56 picks before the board was ready.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Jones. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 21 they get a problem off the edge at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Patrick Paul at slot 56 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A need, and now a little less of one.
They talked themselves into Layden Robinson at Round 5, Pick 22, and the board did not agree. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They reached into another round for Keaton Bills, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Cornelius Johnson at the 198th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Taking Sheridan Jones in pick No. 241 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. A minor need, but a need all the same.
