The Cowboys spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Devin Neal, the No. 80 name on the board, in pick No. 173. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
The Toia pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They will regret leaving cornerback for another day if the season turns on it.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 12 they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Steal is underselling it; Omarion Hampton at pick 44 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Deone Walker is a better player than the 76th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The roster fit checks out.
The board fumbled Quinshon Judkins all the way to the 148th overall pick, and they scooped it up. A need, and now a little less of one.
You do not let a linebacker like Danny Stutsman reach the Round 5 slot and blink. They did not. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A tight end of that caliber at Round 5, Pick 33 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They will replay Devin Neal at No. 173 for years; that is how good the value is. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Jeffrey Bassa in slot 186, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
DJ Campbell in slot 209 is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A wild overpay on Jay Toia in pick No. 248, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
