When a board-topper like Quinyon Mitchell slides to the 64th pick, you do not overthink it, and the Chiefs did not.
A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
They trusted the board more than the depth chart.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 32 they get protection for the quarterback at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Quinyon Mitchell in slot 64 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Brenden Rice in the 95th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Value with a capital V on James Williams in pick No. 132, a genuine coup. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Luke McCaffrey is a better player than the Round 5 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Khristian Boyd at No. 173 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Nothing to complain about; Kalen DeLoach went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
