Green Bay Packers

The Packers let Baker fall into their laps, and walked away with a B.

This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Javon Baker, the No. 95 name on the board, stolen at the 127th pick. The bottom line is a respectable B.

Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Chop Robinson · DE-EDGE · rank 21
In pick 25 they get juice off the edge. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Chris Braswell · LB-EDGE · rank 41
They took Chris Braswell at par in Round 2, Pick 9, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Kamari Lassiter · CB · rank 40
Kamari Lassiter at the 58th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Austin Booker · DE-EDGE · rank 82
They did well to land Austin Booker in slot 88, just ahead of his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Blake Corum · RB · rank 86
A clean, defensible pick in No. 91 with a little surplus value in Blake Corum. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R4.27 · Pick 127 · Javon Baker · WR · rank 95
Javon Baker in pick No. 127 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R5.32 · Pick 168 · Kitan Oladapo · S · rank 156
Kitan Oladapo at the 168th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R6.29 · Pick 204 · Drake Nugent · C · rank 203
By-the-book stuff, Drake Nugent at the Round 6 slot squarely in line with his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
R6.41 · Pick 216 · Nathan Thomas · OT · rank 208
The board had Nathan Thomas higher than the 216th overall pick, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R7.23 · Pick 243 · Michael Barrett · LB · rank 218
Somehow Michael Barrett was still sitting there in the 243rd pick, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R7.31 · Pick 251 · Austin Reed · QB · rank 231
Taking Austin Reed in No. 251 is close to grand larceny; a quarterback that good had no business lasting this long. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
