The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Zavion Thomas, pick No. 251, roughly 26 picks past where he belonged.
For all the activity, safety went untouched, which is hard to explain. They are betting Barber proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
The skill positions did well by the weekend.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 13 they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Steal is underselling it; Anthony Hill Jr. at pick 61 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Austin Barber at No. 93 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jadon Canady in slot 207 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A minor itch, scratched.
They paid a round early for Diego Pavia in the Round 7 slot, more than the board wanted. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Taking Zavion Thomas in Round 7, Pick 35 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Fair-plus on Desmond Reid, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
