Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Kayden McDonald got past him. The Cowboys do not have to explain a thing at No. 180.
For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain. They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a bendy edge with upside. More want than need.
In slot 20 they get a sticky cover corner, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Sonny Styles in pick No. 92 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They robbed the room for Dillon Thieneman here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Jermod McCoy at the 152nd overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They barely believed it either: Colton Hood still on the board at Round 5, Pick 37. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A top-tier interior defensive lineman at a bargain, Kayden McDonald in No. 180, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
