The Packers did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B.

Priorities are a choice, and the Packers made a strange one, taking James Williams at safety in No. 135 with quarterback, tight end and other spots crying out for the pick instead.

That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. However the rest shakes out, Cephus at that price is a win they earned. The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Dallas Turner · LB-EDGE · rank 14
In the 25th pick they get a disruptor off the edge, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.25 · Pick 57 · Jeremiah Trotter Jr. · LB · rank 61
By-the-book stuff, Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at Round 2, Pick 25 squarely in line with his ranking. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R2.28 · Pick 60 · Calen Bullock · S · rank 49
Calen Bullock at the Round 2 slot is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Christian Mahogany · OG · rank 80
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Christian Mahogany at pick 88 is the proof. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R4.6 · Pick 106 · Bucky Irving · RB · rank 92
Nice patience on Bucky Irving, who had no business lasting to pick No. 106. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R4.25 · Pick 125 · Jarrian Jones · CB · rank 122
They did well to land Jarrian Jones in the 125th pick, just ahead of his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R4.35 · Pick 135 · James Williams · S · rank 129
They zigged when the board said zag, taking James Williams at safety with quarterback, tight end and other spots open.
R6.28 · Pick 203 · Myles Jones · CB · rank 204
No edge and no loss on Myles Jones in the 203rd overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Sheridan Jones · CB · rank 212
A clean, defensible pick in slot 219 with a little surplus value in Sheridan Jones. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R7.26 · Pick 246 · Joshua Cephus · WR · rank 230
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Joshua Cephus at the 246th overall pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R7.31 · Pick 251 · Eric Gentry · LB · rank 239
They read the board right and Eric Gentry was the payoff at the 251st pick. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
