The Cowboys treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending pick 233 on Zion Logue a full 53 spots early.
The whole projection now runs through J.J. McCarthy; hit there and everything else looks smarter. The trade table is where this weekend went wrong.
They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The McCaffrey pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 8 they get a No. 1 receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
In the Round 1 slot they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In pick 24 they get a long-term answer under center at fair value. A real need, handled.
No drama and no debate, Jeremiah Trotter Jr. went about where he belonged in pick No. 64. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Mike Sainristil at the 74th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A reach on Trey Benson in the 77th pick; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A reach for Christian Mahogany in pick 87; a little patience would have been rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Blake Fisher at Round 4, Pick 12 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Kalen King at slot 126 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Tommy Eichenberg at No. 132 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A quiet steal in the 143rd pick: Jamari Thrash for less than the market said. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They took Mason McCormick at par in the 148th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Steal is underselling it; Luke McCaffrey at the Round 5 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Garret Greenfield at pick No. 216, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They reached into another round for Zion Logue, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Josh Proctor. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
