The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. The Stover pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 4 they get a franchise quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Keon Coleman at pick 35, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Patrick Paul at slot 36 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It fills a real need, too.
A reach on Ja'Lynn Polk in the 54th pick; the board had better options right there. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Dominick Puni at the Round 3 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Cade Stover in Round 4, Pick 3, miles early. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A quiet steal in the 140th overall pick: Khyree Jackson for less than the market said. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
By-the-book stuff, Sincere Haynesworth at pick No. 164 squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
Ty'Ron Hopper at No. 181 is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Value said wait; Frank Gore Jr. in pick No. 224 says they were not listening. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
