The Cowboys looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Tommy Eichenberg at pick No. 87 regardless, 40 picks early. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
Landing Jones that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 26 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on T'Vondre Sweat. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A real head-scratcher, Tommy Eichenberg in No. 87 is miles ahead of his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Jamari Thrash in Round 3, Pick 26 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They took MarShawn Lloyd at par in the 124th pick, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A straight-up fair deal on Jaylan Ford at slot 174, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A big swing on Mark Perry at the 212th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Taking Sheridan Jones in slot 245 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
