The tape said wait; the 49ers did not. Mikail Kamara went at the 133rd pick, a good 22 picks before the board was ready. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up. The Farmer pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Olaivavega Ioane at slot 27. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Nothing to complain about; Malachi Lawrence went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
The board fumbled Jalen Farmer all the way to the 127th pick, and they scooped it up. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Mikail Kamara in pick 133 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A big swing on Max Llewellyn at No. 138, well ahead of any board in the building. A need, and now a little less of one.
Nice patience on Joe Royer, who had no business lasting to Round 4, Pick 39. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
