You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Chiefs did exactly that with Jared Wiley in No. 176. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. However the rest shakes out, Mims at that price is a win they earned.
They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
Amarius Mims in the 32nd pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Max Melton in the 64th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
No drama and no debate, Brenden Rice went about where he belonged in slot 95. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 133 with a little surplus value in Cedric Gray. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A straight-up fair deal on Trevor Keegan at pick 158, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They talked themselves into Jared Wiley at No. 176, and the board did not agree. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
