There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Cowboys started one anyway for Austin Booker, 66 picks ahead of schedule.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Davis. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up.
They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 31 they get a long-term starter on the line, though they paid up to get him. Exactly the need they had to hit.
No edge and no loss on Zach Frazier in Round 2, Pick 24; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Junior Colson at the Round 3 slot is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Austin Booker. A minor itch, scratched.
Chau Smith-Wade in the 184th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
You do not let a running back like Isaiah Davis reach the 213th overall pick and blink. They did not. A need, and now a little less of one.
Brevyn Spann-Ford at Round 6, Pick 44 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Darius Muasau in the 231st pick is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A premium they did not need to pay, Jeremy Flax a notch or two before his time. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
