Washington Commanders

The steal of the weekend belongs to the Commanders and Henderson: A-.

Future A

The trade table was a mismatch, and the Commanders were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value. A near-flawless weekend of work, and a A- to cap it.

Getting Henderson where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The wide receiver hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Bradley Chubb gives the group a proven body among the projects.

In short, they turned a good board into a better roster, and it shows.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.4 · Pick 4 · Joe Alt · OT · rank 3
In pick 4 they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.3 · Pick 35 · Tyler Nubin · S · rank 30
A reasonable price with a little left over, Tyler Nubin in the 35th overall pick. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R2.4 · Pick 36 · Quinyon Mitchell · CB · rank 31
Quinyon Mitchell at Round 2, Pick 4 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R2.8 · Pick 40 · Chop Robinson · DE-EDGE · rank 35
Good price on Chop Robinson in pick No. 40, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · Jeremiah Trotter Jr. · LB · rank 61
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in the Round 3 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R3.37 · Pick 100 · Zak Zinter · OG · rank 95
Zak Zinter at slot 100 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R4.2 · Pick 102 · Audric Estime · RB · rank 98
Audric Estime in the Round 4 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It fills a real need, too.
R4.4 · Pick 104 · Michael Pratt · QB · rank 102
Michael Pratt at Round 4, Pick 4 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R5.5 · Pick 141 · Jaheim Bell · TE · rank 140
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jaheim Bell. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R6.6 · Pick 181 · LaDarius Henderson · OT · rank 163
Taking LaDarius Henderson in slot 181 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R7.3 · Pick 223 · Sheridan Jones · CB · rank 221
They paid sticker price for Sheridan Jones in the 223rd overall pick, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
