Washington Commanders

The Commanders drew a line under the quarterback search with Daniels: C+.

There is conviction, and then there is this. The Commanders took Jawhar Jordan a full 127 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. A weekend of give and take that grades a C+.

They have staked the next five years on Jayden Daniels, which is the only story that really matters here. They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back.

The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Ford.

It grades out a shrug today, with plenty of room to move either way.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.11 · Pick 11 · Jayden Daniels · QB · rank 7
In the Round 1 slot they get the arm they will build around. A real need, handled.
R1.23 · Pick 23 · Amarius Mims · OT · rank 24
Amarius Mims in No. 23 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R2.4 · Pick 36 · Brian Thomas Jr. · WR · rank 27
The board had Brian Thomas Jr. higher than pick No. 36, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R2.8 · Pick 40 · Ladd McConkey · WR · rank 34
Nothing to complain about; Ladd McConkey went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · T.J. Tampa · CB · rank 51
T.J. Tampa slipping to Round 3, Pick 3 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R3.14 · Pick 78 · Kiran Amegadjie · OT · rank 66
They let Kiran Amegadjie come to them and pounced at the 78th pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R3.37 · Pick 100 · Tommy Eichenberg · LB · rank 145
Tommy Eichenberg at slot 100 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R5.3 · Pick 139 · Christian Jones · OT · rank 132
Christian Jones in pick 139 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R5.16 · Pick 152 · Jawhar Jordan · RB · rank 279
Jawhar Jordan at the Round 5 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It fills a real need, too.
R5.31 · Pick 167 · Tykee Smith · S · rank 160
A reasonable price with a little left over, Tykee Smith in the 167th pick. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R7.2 · Pick 222 · Jaylan Ford · LB · rank 205
Jaylan Ford slid further than he should have, and No. 222 is lovely value for the linebacker. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
