The board owed the Cowboys one, and it paid up: Keon Coleman, the No. 36 name on the board, sitting there at the 94th pick like a gift left on the doorstep.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.
Bottom line, with Nate Wiggins leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 30th pick they get a lockdown presence outside, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Troy Fautanu in the Round 2 slot, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Keon Coleman in pick No. 94 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
You do not let a running back like Will Shipley reach Round 4, Pick 35 and blink. They did not. It fills a real need, too.
They took Ty'Ron Hopper at par in pick 174, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jared Wiley slipping to slot 216 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Somehow JD Bertrand was still sitting there in No. 250, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
