Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys robbed the room for Carson. Final grade: B.

The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Cowboys watched Caelen Carson slide 80 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.

The Raym pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

The trade work was a quiet net positive. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.2 · Pick 34 · Jordan Morgan · OT · rank 37
Jordan Morgan at No. 34 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R2.24 · Pick 56 · T'Vondre Sweat · DT · rank 45
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing T'Vondre Sweat in pick 56. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R3.4 · Pick 68 · Jaylen Wright · RB · rank 71
Jaylen Wright at slot 68 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
R3.24 · Pick 87 · Ricky Pearsall · WR · rank 59
They barely believed it either: Ricky Pearsall still on the board at the 87th pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R5.1 · Pick 137 · Justin Eboigbe · DL-EDGE · rank 149
Justin Eboigbe in Round 5, Pick 1 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R5.38 · Pick 174 · Caelen Carson · CB · rank 94
The board fumbled Caelen Carson all the way to pick No. 174, and they scooped it up. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R6.5 · Pick 180 · Jaylan Ford · LB · rank 205
Value said wait; Jaylan Ford in the Round 6 slot says they were not listening. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R6.18 · Pick 193 · Andrew Raym · C · rank 239
They reached into another round for Andrew Raym, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R6.41 · Pick 216 · Trente Jones · OT · rank 194
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Trente Jones in pick No. 216, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R7.13 · Pick 233 · Justin Rogers · DL · rank 193
Taking Justin Rogers in No. 233 is close to grand larceny; an interior defensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R7.24 · Pick 244 · Kendall Milton · RB · rank 201
Circle this one: Kendall Milton at Round 7, Pick 24 is a fall that decides a draft. A need, and now a little less of one.
