The board owed the Cowboys one, and it paid up: Caedan Wallace, the No. 212 name on the board, sitting there at pick 233 like a gift left on the doorstep. The bottom line is a respectable B.

The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The cost of the Jacobs reach is exactly the players who went right after him.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.24 · Pick 24 · Troy Fautanu · OT · rank 22
In No. 24 they get a long-term starter on the line. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.28 · Pick 60 · Payton Wilson · LB · rank 57
Fair-plus on Payton Wilson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R3.24 · Pick 87 · Bucky Irving · RB · rank 91
Bucky Irving at pick 87 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R4.28 · Pick 128 · Johnny Wilson · WR · rank 125
They did well to land Johnny Wilson in the Round 4 slot, just ahead of his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R4.34 · Pick 134 · Christian Jones · OT · rank 133
They paid sticker price for Christian Jones in pick No. 134, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R5.38 · Pick 174 · Kamal Hadden · CB · rank 167
Good price on Kamal Hadden in the 174th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R6.14 · Pick 189 · Curtis Jacobs · LB · rank 198
Curtis Jacobs at slot 189 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R6.41 · Pick 216 · Ryan Flournoy · WR · rank 204
A slide stopped in Round 6, Pick 41, with Ryan Flournoy worth more than the price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R7.13 · Pick 233 · Caedan Wallace · OT · rank 212
A offensive lineman of that caliber at No. 233 is the definition of value, full stop. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R7.24 · Pick 244 · Edefuan Ulofoshio · LB · rank 236
Edefuan Ulofoshio in the 244th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
