If confidence were a draft strategy, the Packers would have aced it. Emory Jones at the 78th overall pick is 351 spots clear of where he belonged. Call it a C and check back in two years.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Packers clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before. Quarterback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
A perfectly average weekend, for better and for worse.
Pick-by-Pick
A wild overpay on Emory Jones in the 78th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A real head-scratcher, Zach Calzada in slot 88 is miles ahead of his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jeremy Moussa in Round 4, Pick 25 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Grant Gunnell at the Round 6 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Austin Reed. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A big swing on Carter Bradley at pick No. 209, well ahead of any board in the building. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Tanner Mordecai at pick 217 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Value said wait; Collin Schlee in Round 6, Pick 44 says they were not listening. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Brennan Armstrong this early at the 246th pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
The board had cheaper options than Devin Leary at the 251st overall pick, and it noticed. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
