Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Nehemiah Pritchett got past him. The Cowboys do not have to explain a thing at the 174th overall pick. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
That linebacker hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it. The dealing was even money, start to finish.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but linebacker.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 24th overall pick they get a long-term starter on the line. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Braden Fiske at slot 60 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Trey Benson in the Round 3 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Sataoa Laumea at No. 125 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Johnny Wilson at pick No. 128 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Taking Nehemiah Pritchett in Round 5, Pick 38 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Cornelius Johnson at the 216th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They robbed the room for Myles Harden here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
