The Packers put a flag in the ground for Dallas Gant, 99 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
Landing Magee that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The trades bled value they could not afford to lose.
The Packers indulged a want in Green while a need in edge rusher, cornerback and other spots stayed open. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
The board had Tyler Guyton higher than pick 41, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. The roster fit checks out.
By-the-book stuff, Jaden Hicks at Round 2, Pick 26 squarely in line with his ranking. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They bypassed pressing needs at edge rusher, cornerback and other spots to take Renardo Green, a safety that was not the priority.
No drama and no debate, Dominick Puni went about where he belonged in No. 91. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Matt Goncalves in pick No. 126, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Isaiah Davis is a better player than the 169th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jaden Crumedy at the 185th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
The board fumbled Jordan Magee all the way to Round 6, Pick 27, and they scooped it up. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Dallas Gant in slot 219 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Michael Barrett at pick 245 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
A wild overpay on Kedon Slovis in No. 255, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
