The rest of the league will want that one back. Sam Roush tumbling to the 49ers in slot 133 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up. They will need Gill-Howard to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 27 they get a cornerstone up front. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Good price on Gennings Dunker in pick 58, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They will replay Logan Jones at slot 127 for years; that is how good the value is. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Sam Roush at the 133rd pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The roster fit checks out.
The board had Will Lee III higher than the 138th overall pick, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Skyler Gill-Howard at the Round 4 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
