The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Skyler Bell, the 121st overall pick, roughly 33 picks past where he belonged.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. It is not that World is a bad player; it is that the Steelers had louder needs to answer first.
The Brian Thomas Jr. pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
Nice patience on Emmanuel Pregnon, who had no business lasting to pick No. 53. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren at Round 2, Pick 24 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
You do not let a linebacker like Josiah Trotter reach the 76th overall pick and blink. They did not. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Domonique Orange in the Round 3 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Ted Hurst at No. 88 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Treydan Stukes in slot 99. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They will replay Skyler Bell at pick 121 for years; that is how good the value is. A need, and now a little less of one.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Isaiah World at offensive lineman with edge rusher, running back and other spots open.
Nothing to complain about; Drew Allar went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
