The Vikings did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Jaylan Ford fell into the 230th overall pick. No fireworks, but a solid B.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get protection for the quarterback. The biggest hole, addressed.
No drama and no debate, J.J. McCarthy went about where he belonged in the 42nd pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Payton Wilson in No. 108 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Steal is underselling it; Max Melton at the 129th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Kamal Hadden at slot 148 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Braelon Allen in Round 5, Pick 24 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A straight-up fair deal on Kitan Oladapo at pick 168, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They read the board right and Layden Robinson was the payoff at pick No. 179. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They robbed the room for Jaylan Ford here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
