Green Bay Packers

The Packers went off-script early, and it cost them a F.

The Khristian Boyd pick is the one that will follow the Packers into the fall. They took him 86 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

About as rough as a weekend gets on paper, with quarterback still staring back at them.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.26 · Pick 26 · Troy Fautanu · OT · rank 22
They did well to land Troy Fautanu in the Round 1 slot, just ahead of his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 49
They jumped the gun on Edgerrin Cooper, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Max Melton · CB · rank 76
A wild overpay on Max Melton in No. 58, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Jaden Hicks · S · rank 85
A tidy little value on Jaden Hicks in the 88th overall pick, a step better than break-even. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Khristian Boyd · DL-EDGE · rank 177
Khristian Boyd at slot 91 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.29 · Pick 92 · Ben Sinnott · TE · rank 129
They reached into another round for Ben Sinnott, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R4.1 · Pick 101 · Hunter Nourzad · C · rank 159
Hunter Nourzad at pick No. 101 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Brandon Coleman · OL · rank 185
Brandon Coleman at the 126th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It fills a real need, too.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Trevin Wallace · LB · rank 233
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Trevin Wallace well ahead of where he belonged. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
R6.27 · Pick 202 · Rasheen Ali · RB · rank 257
Rasheen Ali in pick 202 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Myles Harden · CB · rank 209
They read the board right and Myles Harden was the payoff at the Round 6 slot. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R7.35 · Pick 255 · Omar Brown · S · rank 285
A real head-scratcher, Omar Brown in No. 255 is miles ahead of his ranking. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
