Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Packers spent slot 103 on Khristian Boyd, a name the board had a full 74 spots lower. Little went right, and the F does not pretend otherwise.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. The Brade pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback, wide receiver and other spots still on the board.
They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
In the end, a class that has to defy its grades just to matter.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get a press-man option on the boundary at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
They liked Edgerrin Cooper enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 41. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They reached a country mile for Jaden Hicks at the Round 2 slot, and the board is aghast. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Ben Sinnott at the 88th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They paid sticker price for Christian Mahogany in Round 3, Pick 28, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
They talked themselves into Hunter Nourzad at No. 101, and the board did not agree. The roster fit checks out.
A real head-scratcher, Khristian Boyd in pick No. 103 is miles ahead of his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A want over a need in slot 126: Beau Brade adds a safety while quarterback, wide receiver and other spots keeps waiting.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Trevin Wallace well ahead of where he belonged. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
A big swing on Rasheen Ali at No. 202, well ahead of any board in the building. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Value said wait; Blake Watson in the Round 6 slot says they were not listening. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
By-the-book stuff, Jalen Sundell at pick 245 squarely in line with his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Tarheeb Still slipping to Round 7, Pick 35 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
