You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Packers did exactly that with Tyler Owens in pick 202. Fine in stretches, shaky in others: a C+.
They will answer for taking safety early while edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots went begging. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
It nets out as a middle-of-the-pack haul that neither helps nor hurts much.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 25 they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value.
Value said wait; Jaden Hicks in the Round 2 slot says they were not listening. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Max Melton in the 58th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Cole Bishop at safety with edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots open.
Cedric Gray at the 91st pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Isaiah Davis at pick 126 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Garret Greenfield well ahead of where he belonged. A need, and now a little less of one.
They reached a country mile for Tyler Owens at the 202nd pick, and the board is aghast. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Nathaniel Watson at the Round 6 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
By-the-book stuff, Jalen Sundell at pick No. 245 squarely in line with his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Kedon Slovis at the 255th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
