You can draft well and still miss the point. The Cowboys did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to quarterback, which was the need that mattered most.
On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
The dealing was even money, start to finish.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 24 they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They took Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at par in the 61st pick, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A clean, defensible pick in the 87th overall pick with a little surplus value in Roman Wilson. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
No drama and no debate, Jarrian Jones went about where he belonged in No. 124. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They did well to land Frank Gore Jr. in pick No. 174, just ahead of his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jalen Berger in the Round 6 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Mark Perry in pick 245 is fair value, right on his grade. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
